Welcome to The Soothing Nest
A gentle space for autism parents to find calm, share wisdom, and feel less alone.
Why I created The Soothing Nest
I studied Early Years care and Education in University, so I had my knowledge in child development. When my son was diagnosed, I thought my world, without meaning to sound dramatic, had fallen to pieces. I did not know what to expect, and I mourned the life I thought we’d have. However, with support and research, I found light again, and this space is here to help you find yours.
Meltdowns
Those moments can feel impossible-for them and for us. Here’s how we ride the waves with love, not fear.
Transitions
Leaving the park. Starting school. Switching off the iPad. Let’s talk about what helps make change feel safe.
Self-Care Tips
You matter too. Let’s all share self-care tips, for real days – no guilt, no pressure.
Sensory Needs
Noise, clothes, lights, textures- when the world feels ‘too much’, here’s how we soften it.
Speech & Communication
Word’s aren’t the only way we connect. Here’s how we build communication, one cue at a time.
Open Discussions
Sometimes we just need to say it out loud- the hard, the hilarious, the real. This is your space to speak freely. Ask for advice. Vent. Celebrate. Connect. No judgement, just warmth and understanding from parents who get it.
The Diagnosis is Just the Beginning- and then what?
For many of us, the day our child was diagnosed brought a mix of relief, grief and a hundred questions. We were told early support was crucial- but then it came to the waiting lists, the costs, the closed doors. And we were left wondering: What do we do in the meantime?
This space was born from that silence.
Here, we don’t wait to be told what to do. We share what’s helped- not from professionals’ checklists, but from our lived experience. What calmed the chaos. What built connection. What worked for us.
Because while no two kids are the same, we all deserve to feel a little less alone while we figure it out.
You’re invited to share your own tips, tools, and gentle breakthroughs- no matter how small.
- Whether it’s how you supported communication before speech came
- How you helped your child through tough transitions
- Or just something that gave you five minutes of peace.
Your voice matters. And it might be exactly what another parent needs today.
